Operation Blessing

I was thinking of making my birthday this year extra special. I gave out invites to my friends for a girls night out at a videoke place in Jupiter. They almost fell on their seats when they saw my invite:

But I cancelled it a day before my birthday because I felt guilty celebrating when most of my kababayans are suffering because of the recent flooding. I wanted to make myself a little useful on my birthday so I asked my housemate, Mitzi, if I could volunteer as a packer in the NGO that she works for. She said to just come by anytime. So together with my two friends, Aine and Inocs, we went to the warehouse of Operation Blessing (OB) to repack relief goods to be distributed to areas affected by typhoon Ondoy. OB is operating round the clock just to meet the needs of our kababayans.

We were able to snap some photos while taking a break:

The batch of relief goods (1,180 packages) we packed are scheduled to be distributed in Pasig area the next day. One package consists of 4 kilos of rice, 3 cans of sardines, 3 packs of noodles, 1 small pack of cooking oil and several sachets of instant coffee.

We went home at around 3am. It was already officially my birthday. I was tired and my body was aching all over but I was happy because I just celebrated my birthday in the best way possible.

You may find Operation Blessing at Bldg. 8 La Fuerza Compound, Pasong Tamo, Makati City. Just enter the gate beside Mazda and Unionbank. http://obphil.com/

Bora

Yes, I was in Boracay last week. 4 days and 3 nights of Bora life. It was my first time there and I find it a great destination (if you are a party person). Bora and Bohol now tops my list. I find it hard to decide which is a better place. Well, if you want to be alone and find some peace and quiet - go to Bohol but if you want to party and see lots of people - go to Bora. I will post more pics soon.

I wish they would release an official trailer with the Volturi in it. I'd like to see how Dakota Fanning looks like as Jane.

Questions

Last night, I went to my cousin's house blessing. Little did I know that I'd be asked THE QUESTION again. The culprit is the brother-in-law of my cousin's husband. So you see kung gaano na siya kalayo sa akin in terms of blood relations. As in wala. And we see each other about 2x a year lang. Pero kahit na, it didn't stop him from asking this to me:

"So kelan naman kami uupo sa long table?"

I'd like to answer him. "You are sitting on one right now." Pero I just said, "wala pa po" and flashed a smile.

Ano bang paki niya?! At kapag ikakasal na ako, I don't think I'd even invite him. Hindi naman kami close noh.

Imagine that?

Me: Saan?
Male cousin: Kay Let, sa baby niya.
Me: Hinde.

That's for sure.

Oh well, I guess I just have to find some clever answer to the question next time. I know this isn't the last time I'd be asked. =(

Cutlass

This is a really nice short film I found on You Tube. It's about never forgetting how it is to be a child.

Title: Cutlass
Director and Writer: Kate Hudson
Actors:
Dad - Kurt Russell
Robin - Virginia Madsen
Young Robin - Kristen Stewart
Lacy - Dakota Fanning

Enjoy. =)

Dear Dr. Ruth

This made me LOL. Even if I'm feeling blue these past few days. Must be really funny.

Post-Palawan blues

This Monday, we came back from our Palawan trip. It was a blast...and not. I got sick. Really sick. Anyway, enough of that nega vibes.

What I want to say is this: my prayer was answered! Not a single drop of rain when we were there. It was so hot and sunny, we all got sunburned. Mainly because 90% of the time we were on water and the sunblock we smothered on our bodies got washed off a lot. Will tell more when I post the pictures. I mean, if I get to post the pictures. The person who has the pictures now thinks I'm evil. =(

I really have to go now and buy coke and pizza and watch Tayong Dalawa. I hope I can buy that 2 pizza slices for P52 from Pizza Hut.

Tayong dalawa, coke and pizza

I'm feeling off today. It started in the morning (actually it started last night or the other night...whatever). I couldn't finish that BIR report which usually takes me about 2 hours to do. I think I spent a full 4 hours doing it this afternoon. Geez. To think that I still have a lot to do. As in a lot. Especially now that our chief accountant is on leave and I have to perform my duties as well as hers. It's not that I'm complaining. It's just that I feel so lousy today that I hate all the things I lay my eyes on. On days like this, people should stay away from me. Far away. Anyway, tonight should have been Angels & Demons night. But annoying things happened and that movie was cancelled. And so now I'm on my way home to do laundry. No movie. Just laundry. Nice. Someday, I'll get my own help to do my laundry and to cook for me and to clean my future house and to wash my future car. Great. All this ranting makes me more miserable. That's it. I'm going home. It's time for Tayong Dalawa anyway. That would lift me up. And a bottle of coke and a slice of pizza...or two. Yey!

All the single ladies...

I just got an e-mail from a friend today.

She said..."please come to my wedding..."

Then, everything went black...

Alright, exag. I didn't faint after reading the wedding invite. Medyo nahilo lang ng konti. Lol.

Announcements like this make me a bit crazy. Each year, my single friends marry one by one. Odessa is the first to marry in 2009. Then, another one is scheduled to marry in two years time - she already received a proposal. I always say, ok lang, marami pa naman kami. (Based on my unofficial count, I still have around 14 unmarried girlfriends, only 3 or 4 have boyfriends). But until when can I say that? Nobody knows for sure.

But being single still has its benefits. Like (1) a single girl can go anywhere she likes without asking permission from a boyfriend or husband and (2) she can spend her money anyway she likes it - hindi pa kailangang bumili ng gatas or diapers for the baby.

Ang sobrang nakakainis lang kapag single ka pa e kapag nagsimula ng magtanong ang mga married friends mo (your single friends will never ask kung kelan ka mag-aasawa...siempre kasi ayaw rin nila matanong) or mga kamag-anak mo. I stopped going to family reunions and special occasions last year specifically because of this reason. Everybody was asking me..."o, kelan ka naman mag-aasawa?" Hehehe...a bit harsh, I know. Pero I'm sure you will understand if you have been in the same situation.

Anyway, I can go on and on about why I love being single. The truth is one day I also dream of being a bride. A blushing bride on my wedding day. So I still have a few years para humabol. =D

Sunshine and blue skies

Yesterday, my housemate Rizza should have been on board a plane going to Puerto Princesa, Palawan. But since Typhoon Emong is throwing havoc in Central Luzon, her flight got cancelled. So instead of frolicking on the beach today and eating seafoods galore, there she is in her room watching Wowowee and Kambal sa Uma.

What a disaster.

I myself got a taste of Typhoon Emong's wrath. Bumaha na naman sa Washington. Ano pa nga ba? So instead of wading in the ankle-deep flood water, I called my bestfriend to rescue me. At days (nights) like this, I seek shelter under the roof of her Kingswood condo. Thank you, Best! =)

I woke up this morning feeling the sun on my face. There was not a trace of the heavy downpour last night.

Glorious sunshine and blue skies.

That's my prayer when I go to sleep tonight.

This is great!

The blue dot marks my office building. I tried looking for my house street and it's there on Google maps as well. Let me see if I can also find our street in Bicol...

Best Birthday

Today is the 27th birthday of my bestfriend, Aine. We've been friends for more than two years pa lang pero I feel that I've known her for decades already. Nakakapagtaka nga kasi kahit na we have very little in common (physical and personality-wise), we still get along very well. ( I hear Aine LOL).

We're heading to Glorietta later for her free dinner treat. Yey!!! (Sira na naman diet natin nito).

Anyway, have a great birthday, Best!

May all your dreams come true. God bless!

Sarah is coming home

Heard that Sarah Geronimo is finally coming home from her concert tour in the US. Yey!!!

It's about time na naman. Miss ko na siya sa ASAP '09. I'll start watching ASAP again and shout woohoos while cheering for her. =D

I remember one time when my niece was talking to her ate about me. They were watching cartoons sa tv sa sala and I was watching ASAP naman sa tv sa tindahan namin.

Me: Sssh...wag kang maingay, kumakanta pa si Sarah!

My ultimate Sarah-related wish is to watch her live on ASAP. I've seen her countless times live during her Araneta Coliseum concerts pero nalalayuan ako e. I think that watching in the studio is better kasi she's performing right in front of the audience. As in ang lapit! I've been trying to find ways how to watch live on ASAP pero ang hirap. I have a cousin who can get me passes to its rival show (SOP) pero ngek hindi naman ako nanonood non e. Hehehe. Hayyy...paano kaya ako makakapanood nito? Help, anyone? =)

Pacman

Manny Pacquiao is the MAN.

The whole Philippines (and the whole world) stood still for the Pacquiao - Hatton fight last Sunday morning. Everybody was glued to the tv sets to watch Manny crush Ricky in less than two rounds. Wow!!!

Juday and Ryan

I was shocked...totally!

Juday and Ryan finally married.
April 28, 2009.
Tuesday morning.
At San Juan, Batangas.
Wed by Father Tito Caluag.

Congrats, Juday and Ryan!

Boni Art Tour

Last Saturday, April 25, my bestfriend, Aine, and I got to join the free tour organized by the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and conducted by no other than Carlos Celdran! He's the one doing the Manila and Imelda tours (and others more - check out his website (http://celdrantours.blogspot.com/). I am so fascinated by the way he conducts his tours. Not the usual boring stuff we were forced to experience in school. His tours are way, way, way better. Entertaining and definitely educational. Anyway, this is the first time he's doing it the traditional way: by bus. As in tour bus! We almost didn't make it to the tour. It started just 5 minutes after we arrived. Whew! Glad we made it!

Carlos Celdran

We started our tour by singing the national anthem (with our right hands on top of our hearts). Now, this part I really like. Not a bit embarrassed to sing my heart out. I always really sing the anthem on last full shows at SM cinemas (I don't think they still play it at Ayala cinemas). Anyway, after the singing part we head on to the buses to go to our first stop - the sun dial. Never saw this before in BGC. Actually, almost all of the public arts showcased in this tour, I haven't really seen before. Carlos said that BGC was probably made with no pedestrian in mind. Just cars running around the city. That's why most of the public arts in the city are hidden from view. And another important thing I learned from Carlos - all building developers in BGC are required to give a certain percentage (it used to be 1%) of their total project budget to the City for the production of public art. That's why there's a lot of it in BGC.

Bonifacio Art Tour Poster

Kasaysayan Bawat Oras by Juan Sajid de Leon Imao. This is an actual sun dial. Tells time accurately. But unfortunately, it was drizzling that time so we didn't get a chance to see how it works.

Balanghai by Leo Gerardo Leonardo (no typo there...that's really his name...). The three sails represents Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The sails can be moved by the wind. (Dapat siguro napakalakas na hangin...kasi di naman gumagalaw nong nakita namin to e.)

Forgot to get the name...sorry.

Taken from a garden inside BGC. I think the garden's name is Kasalikasan (Kasali at Kalikasan). Really beautiful garden. Apparently, it can also be used as a venue for weddings and other special events. (I know, i know, where is the garden? Hehe...the garden pictures came out really dark. No use posting it.)

Ang Supremo by Ben-hur G. Villanueva

The Trees by Reynato Paz Contreras.

Bansoy. Short for bansot na kahoy. This was our last stop. A lot of photo op happened here. Carlos was really game and posed for the pictures. Then it was time to go. Yey, eating time!

Aine and I ate at Conti's in Serendra. It's always jampacked with people and we had to wait for sometime before we can finally eat but the food is worth the wait.

We had Buffalo Wings and Roast Beef in Mushroom Sauce. Super sarap! Forgot to take photos. Gutom na kasi kami e. And then...when we were supposed to be on a diet due to the Coron trip, we had this for dessert...

Mango Bravo. Heavenly.
